In our store we are often asked for help recommending items or techniques to help with common problems. We're often asked for help with specific problems in store, so we thought we would put some posts together about different crystals, essential oils and incense, and meditations that can help.
Today we are talking concentration, focus and determination. We are often asked for suggestions to help with ADHD symptoms, maintaining focus, and staying on track with our goals. Here are our recommendations of just a few crystals, oils, and mental mantras that can help you maintain and regain focus and concentration.
Another idea not mentioned here is that people with ADHD often find it easier to focus on mental tasks such as listening, reading, and learning when their body is moving, so fidgeting may not be a problem, it may be a solution to embrace. Can you get that book you need to read as an audiobook, and go for a walk to take it in as you move? Or try a wobble cushion, or sitting on an exercise ball at your desk for constant movement to help your mind and body work together.
Crystals
All crystals have different properties, and some are particularly good at supporting concentration, determination and focus. Here are just three of the crystals you might find help you keep your focus and get things done.
Hematite
Hematite enhances clarity of thought and pulls excess energy from your environment towards you. Rooting yourself in the present moment can be a daily challenge especially with the advancing technical world. Connecting with Hematite strengthens your root chakra to keep your attention on the task at hand.
Fluorite
Fluorite is known for clarity and mental enhancement. It can assist in clearing of negative energy and aiding in decision making. It allows the mind to flow freely to balance thoughts and ideas. Fluorite is excellent when it comes to important decisions that affect your future.
Blue aventurine
Blue aventurine supports concentration
by reducing hyperactivity and distractibility enhancing your focus.
Essential Oils and Incense
You can use different scents and essential oils to help you to manage your mood and your mental state. Try using an oil burner to infuse your environment with an essential oil whilst you work, or burn incense during meditation to enhance your focus. You might even find teas infused with some of the herbs listed here.
Bergamot
Bergamot reduces feelings of stress, enhances energy and encourages positivity and self belief.
Rosemary
Rosemary improves brain function, mental speed, accuracy and ability to concentrate.
Myrtle
Myrtle helps you to let go of negativity, rumination and dwelling thoughts and enhance productivity and focus.
Mantras and meditations
There are things you can do to help you focus that don't rely on you having any crystal or fragrance. Try these mantras when anxiety hits and you need to calm yourself there and then.
"I notice the thought & move on."
This mantra is particularly helpful for reducing distractibility and it can be used in daily life every time you notice yourself becoming distracted. Another similar technique is to mentally swipe the thought away like an unwanted notification on a smartphone.
"My focus is a muscle I strengthen over time."
Trying to focus for longer periods of time takes practice and works best when your body is well regulated. This mantra helps avoid becoming disheartened. Recognise that any work you do on your ability to focus and concentrate is valuable.
Recognise loss of focus.
Deep breath.
Repeat mantra.
Refocus attention.
