Raspberries, a beloved summer treat, are rich in nutrients and vitamins. While their sweet berries are cherished for fresh feasts, their leaves hold centuries of medicinal tradition. In Europe, cured Raspberry leaves, with a delicate rose-like aroma, were often brewed into tea, akin to black tea, and used as a household staple. Both the fruit and leaves have been used to flavor medicines, although they were never officially recognized in European or North American pharmacopoeias.

Traditionally, Raspberry leaves are valued for their astringent and toning properties, especially as a uterine tonic during pregnancy, a practice rooted in both European and Native American herbalism. Cherokees and 19th-century American herbalist Thompson popularized its use for easing childbirth. The leaves also address diarrhoea, sore throats, fevers, and kidney health, while a poultice soothes wounds or inflamed eyes. For children, Raspberry leaf tea is said to strengthen vitality.

Magically, Raspberries are aphrodisiac, their leaves ideal for ritual drinks honoring the Great Mother’s mysteries.

Synonyms: Red Raspberry, Hindberry, Raspis.
